Access Requirements

A luxury restroom trailer is towed by a pickup truck or flatbed. The tow vehicle + trailer combination is:

  • Length: 40–55 feet total (trailer 20–35 feet + tow vehicle)
  • Width: 8–8.5 feet
  • Height: 11–13 feet
  • Weight: 8,000–20,000 lbs depending on trailer size

Your venue must have:

  • A driveway or access route at least 10 feet wide (12+ preferred)
  • Overhead clearance of 12+ feet for the entire access route (watch for tree branches and utility lines)
  • A solid surface capable of supporting 20,000+ lbs — asphalt, concrete, or compacted gravel; not soft soil or fresh lawn
  • A turning radius or straight pull-through to reach the placement location and exit
The most common setup problem: a narrow farm lane with overhead tree branches that the driver can't pass. Walk your access route with a tape measure before booking if you're unsure.

Power Requirements

Luxury restroom trailers require electrical power for climate control, lighting, and water pump operation:

Trailer SizePower RequiredCircuit TypeGenerator If No Power
2–3 station20–30 amps, 120VStandard 20A outlet2,000–3,500W generator
4–5 station30–50 amps, 120/240VDryer outlet or disconnect5,000–7,500W generator
6–8 station50–100 amps, 240VService disconnect10,000W+ generator

For most outdoor wedding venues: a standard 20-amp outlet within 50 feet of the trailer position is sufficient for a 2–3 station unit. Discuss specifics with your vendor — they will tell you the exact circuit requirement for the specific trailer being delivered.

If no power is available, a rental generator is required. Generator rental runs $100–$300/day depending on size. The generator needs to be positioned 20+ feet from the trailer entrance to keep exhaust away from users.

Water Connection Options

Luxury trailers can get water three ways:

  1. Garden hose connection (preferred). A standard 3/4-inch garden hose from any outdoor spigot. Minimum 25–30 PSI. The vendor supplies the hose if you supply the spigot connection point within 100 feet.
  2. Onboard freshwater tank. Vendor fills the tank at delivery. Capacity: 75–200 gallons depending on trailer. Sufficient for 1-day events without refilling for most guest counts. Vendor may return to refill for multi-day events.
  3. No water / chemical only. For some configurations, the toilets operate with chemical treatment only (no flush). Less common in luxury trailers — verify with your vendor if water is not available.

Leveling the Trailer

Level ground is critical for luxury restroom trailer function. An unlevel trailer causes:

  • Water to not drain properly from sinks and toilet connections
  • Doors to swing open or closed on their own
  • A slightly off-balance feeling that immediately signals "rental" to guests

The driver will use leveling jacks (built into the trailer) to correct for up to 6–8 inches of grade variation. For sites with more than 8 inches of grade at the parking location, the driver will need to find an alternate position or use cribbing blocks. Identify the most level area on your venue in advance.

Setup Timing

StepTypical Duration
Trailer delivery and positioning20–30 minutes
Leveling10–15 minutes
Power and water connection10–15 minutes
Interior check and final prep10 minutes
Total setup time50–70 minutes

Plan for the driver to arrive 90–120 minutes before your event opens. This provides buffer for any site access surprises or connection issues.

Frequently Asked Questions

What power outlet does a luxury restroom trailer need?

A 2–3 station luxury trailer typically needs a standard 20-amp, 120V outlet — the same as a regular household outlet. Larger 4–5 station units need a 30–50 amp circuit (similar to a dryer outlet). Confirm exact requirements with your vendor for the specific trailer being delivered.

What if my venue has no electricity or water for a restroom trailer?

A rental generator ($100–$300/day) provides power; position it 20+ feet from the trailer. The trailer's onboard freshwater tank provides water — the vendor fills it at delivery. Both options are standard and frequently used at remote venues and farms.

How level does the ground need to be for a luxury restroom trailer?

Within 6–8 inches of level is manageable — the driver uses built-in leveling jacks to compensate. More than 8 inches of grade at the placement location requires either cribbing blocks or a different placement site. Identify the most level area at your venue before delivery.

How long does it take to set up a luxury restroom trailer?

Approximately 50–70 minutes from arrival to fully operational. Plan for the driver to arrive 90–120 minutes before your event opens to allow buffer for any site surprises.

How wide does the access road need to be for a luxury restroom trailer?

Minimum 10 feet of clear width; 12+ feet preferred. The trailer body is 8–8.5 feet wide with the tow vehicle adding width at the hitch point. Overhead clearance of 12+ feet is required for the full access route — include trees, utility lines, and structures.
