Festival sanitation isn’t the same as event sanitation

A wedding caterer can plan around 200 guests with a luxury trailer. A festival operations director is planning around 25,000 guests, three days, alcohol service, multiple stages, ADA compliance, permit conditions, and the very real risk of a porta potty line that becomes a viral TikTok. The math, the logistics, and the failure modes are all different.

We dispatch festival fleets year-round — music weekends in Austin, Nashville, and Coachella-type desert events; county fairs in the Midwest; coastal marathons; multi-day food and wine festivals. The patterns repeat. This page documents how we plan, price, and service them.

Capacity table: how many units does your festival need?

The default ratio is 1 standard unit per 100 attendees for a dry, 8-hour event — or 1 unit per 50 attendees when alcohol is served. Multi-day festivals scale by the peak-attendance day, not the multi-day total.

Peak attendance Dry event Alcohol service ADA units (5%) Hand wash
1,00010 std20 std1–22–3
5,00050 std100 std510–15
10,000100 std200 std1020–25
25,000250 std500 std2550
50,000500 std1,000 std50100
100,0001,000 std2,000 std100200

These are minimums. Add 10–20% for camping festivals (24-hour use), heat events (Phoenix, Las Vegas, Coachella), or events with extended bar hours. Subtract 10–15% for shorter sets (4-hour concerts).

Where to place units on your festival site

Placement is what separates a smooth festival from a viral porta-potty line. Three rules from our dispatch leads:

Multi-day overnight servicing

For events that run multiple days, we run an overnight service window — typically 2:00 AM to 6:00 AM. Each unit gets:

For festivals over 25,000 attendees we add a mid-day refresh window (typically 2–4 PM during a less-attended set) at the highest-traffic clusters. Hand wash stations get water-tank refills on a separate 4–6 hour cycle.

Pricing for festival rentals

Festival pricing is calculated from unit-days plus servicing, not a simple day rate. A 3-day festival with 200 standard units is 600 unit-days, plus 200 overnight services per night, plus 200 ADA-and-hand-wash bundles. Volume discounts kick in at 50, 100, and 250 unit-days.

Tier Per-unit-day Includes

50–249 unit-days$50–$70+ overnight servicing window
250–999 unit-days$42–$60+ pre-staged pump truck on site

ADA units run 1.5× standard rate. Hand wash stations $35–$60/unit-day. Distance-to-depot uplifts may apply for remote venues.

Permits and compliance

Most municipalities require sanitation documentation as part of the festival permit. We provide:

If your permit office needs additional language, our ops team has worked with most major US municipal permit offices and can produce city-specific documentation packages.

Frequently Asked Questions

Real answers from our festival ops team. Still got questions? Call (833) 652-9344.

How many porta potties does a festival need?+
Default: 1 unit per 100 attendees dry, 1 per 50 with alcohol. A 10K-attendee festival with a beer garden needs ~200 units. A 50K multi-day festival typically deploys 800–1,200 units with surge capacity at peak times near stages and food.
How often are festival porta potties serviced during the event?+
Multi-day festivals get overnight servicing (2–6 AM) plus a mid-day refresh at high-traffic clusters. Hand wash stations get water-tank refills every 4–6 hours.
How far in advance do I need to book?+
For festivals over 5,000 attendees, 60–90 days. We need lead time to stage trucks, schedule overnight servicing crews, and coordinate with permit offices. Last-minute orders may face partial availability.
Do festivals legally require ADA units?+
Yes — most municipal festival permits require ADA-compliant porta potties at 5% of total units (1 ADA per 20 standard) or 1 per 1,000 attendees, whichever is greater. We include this calculation automatically.
How do you handle waste removal?+
Pump trucks visit overnight on a routing schedule. Waste hauls to permitted sanitation facilities. Festivals over 25,000 attendees get two pre-staged pump trucks for surge capacity. Documentation provided to your permit office.
Can you bundle hand wash and ADA with the standard units?+
Yes — festival quotes are bundled. Hand wash near food/bars, ADA at every cluster, standard units distributed by zone. Single coordinated drop.
